Christmas Grocery Delivery

Last Updated : 25 February 2020

If you guys are anything like me then you can’t abide the supermarkets around the holidays. It’s just so dam busy, the kids are off school and everyone has massive trollies they can barely control overflowing with yummy Christmas treats that are in danger of starting a carb and sugar-loaded landslide at any moment. Don’t even get me started on the frantic dash for last-minute presents or the scramble for the last attractive looking turkey crown, its pandemonium.

This year we’ve decided to forego the trips down the aisle and order our big festive shop over the internet for home delivery. We’ve had a look at some of the delivery offers available right now as well as at when the last deliveries before Christmas are and finally at some of the tempting Christmas ranges that are in stores now. There’s no time to waste if you want everything you need for that perfect Christmas dinner delivered to your door in time for the big day.

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s customers can now book a converted Christmas delivery slot. These are the slots between 21st and 23rd December. The service is suspended from 24th December and 1st January giving the hard-working delivery drivers a break. You can add and amend your order right up until 11 pm the day before your timeslot.

Getting started with Sainsbury’s today could see you save a massive £18 off a £60 shop with their special voucher code. This is only currently for online delivery orders on or before the 15th December so you’d have to check back after this to see if another voucher has been issued- fingers crossed!

Sainsbury’s have a gargantuan selection of festive food available this year. Their party food section alone features over 300 items including things like BBQ belly bits and firecracker chicken wings. A large and exciting vegan and vegetarian selection have been added to cater to the ever-growing community of conscious people shopping in their stores. These include delights such as the BBQ jackfruit rosti stack and the butternut squash and chickpea wellington.

If you’re after something really special then you need to look no further than the Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference selection. Here you’ll find delicious mini steak and onions pies and clementine and prosecco tree-shaped cheesecakes to name a few.

Tesco

Tesco is offering delivery slots on the 24th December, this is only at selected stores however so you will need to check with your local. These are almost certain to sell out in no time so if that’s what you’re after I really would suggest getting a move and booking. You can start booking these dates from 4th December. The slots generally cost about £6 for this time but if you pay £3.49 per month to be Delivery saver member you get priority and there is no extra cost.

This year Tesco are putting a lot of focus on the main event – Christmas dinner. Across their store's big joints of meat are now half price so customers can get a deal on their show-stopping number on Christmas day.

They also have their Tesco Finest range which is chock full of stunning items that are all a little bit spectacular. You can get a Tesco Finest option for almost any component of the turkey dinner, from the beef dripping Yorkshire puddings, red cabbage with port and cranberry and Tesco Finest port sausage meat stuffing.

Waitrose

Waitrose will deliver grocery orders on the 22nd and 23rd but they are going so fast it is hit and miss if you’ll get one in time. The minimum spend is only £60 and you get free delivery. There’s no time to waste.

Waitrose is known for being the posh supermarket, offering higher quality food and drinks and because of that, it has a bit of a reputation for being a little pricier. This may be true, you get what you pay for after all but with their new customer sign up offer you can save £70 off your first 3 shops savings you more than the extra you’d spend.

Waitrose focuses on luxury and that can be seen in their selection of Christmas food and drinks. Your Christmas dinner and festive parties will feel more opulent with the introduction of goose fat roasted potatoes, butter baster turkey crown with smoked bacon and pork and port stuffing with honey and ginger.

Ocado

Ocado offers Christmas delivery up to 24th December ensuring customers receive the freshest Christmas shopping. The minimum spend is £90 which is not hard to do for a full-blown Christmas week where the entire family is off work. Delivery will cost £9.99 but you’re paying for convenience after all.

If you’re a new customer you will more than makeup for the delivery charge with the savings you’ll get off your first shop. You’ll currently get 25% off your first shop plus free delivery for 3 months. If you spend £100 on your first shop you’ll save a massive £25.

Ocado offers one of the biggest ranges of food thanks to the fact they don’t need an actual store. You can also purchase a lot of Waitrose items along with other brands both well know and more niche. Having a quick browse of the website we are drawn to their party snacks and cheeses, they offer such a huge range it’s almost impossible to single out any particular items.

Whoever you decide to order your Christmas grocery shopping with the only certain thing is that you need to act fast before all the good slots are gone and you find yourself getting up at 5 am for the first slot the Sunday before Christmas (I’d rather brave the stores in this case).

There is such a huge amount of money to be saved as new customers with these big stores and they trump the budget stores when it comes to delivery as the budget stores don’t offer this service. Please check back with us before sign up, these voucher codes change fairly often so you must check all is correct before you start your online shopping.
