The Body Shop was born in 1976 by Anita Roddick and from the very beginning it had a very strong focus on how they wanted their brand to be perceived and the values of their products. Everything they sell from women and men’s skincare, hair care, fragrances, makeup, and bath and shower products are made with love and care from the finest ingredients from all-round the world.
Few years later they were owned by the biggest cosmetic brand L’Oreal for a massive £652.3 million.
They say all their products are “inspired by nature” and so they hire skilled workers such as artisan farmers who can get the natural oils like Marula Oil and Sesame Seed Oil to include in their products. By doing this it’s all part of their Community Fair Trade program.
They trade fairly so it benefits the customer. Their policy is NO animal testing so they do not sell or use products which have been tested on them since December 1990. Everything is 100% vegetarian and they always keep animals on their mind. In 2009 The Body Shop got an award for ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ by the RSPCA.
The Body Shop also like to help people out around the world and have started a programme called ‘Trade Not Aid’ with their profits. This was their way of being able to help people in third world countries. They started a paper factory which was located in Nepal where 37 people were employed and they made bags, scented drawer liners and notebooks.
It was a way of encouraging fair labour, equality and safe working environments. You will see symbols on The Body Shop’s products which show that all the ingredients are community traded. In 2008 $12 million was spent on community ingredients.
Today, in 2014 their values and ethical status is still strong and they sell over 1,200 products in 61 countries across 2,500 franchised stores. They are known for their fruity fragrances and luxurious products which makes bathing a pleasurable experience.

Latest News on The Body Shop
All products in China from the duty-free shelves have been removed by The Body Shop, as Chinese authorities were using the products to test on animals. Of course this is against the ethical values of the company.
