About Orvis

It prides itself on being eco friendly, working hard on a daily basis to protect nature, with various initiatives and projects to help contribute towards a sustainable environment and protect vulnerable and endangered wildlife.

The beginnings of the company can be traced back as far as 1856, and as such it has a rich and opulent history that is both unique and fascinating. Its founder, and the man from which the name 'Orvis' derived, is Charles F. Orvis, a fly-tackle enthusiast from Vermont, New England. Back in 1856, Orvis decided to combine his love of fly-tackling and business, opening a tackle shop selling all kinds of items relating to the sport in Vermont's small town of Manchester. It wasn't long before Orvis was coming up with innovative fly tackle designs and selling them to the public, and he famously came up with what is thought to be the very first modern fly reel, building up a strong reputation and becoming highly respected in his field by reel experts.

Despite this, Orvis' business remained a somewhat humble affair for many years, perhaps due to the niche nature of the shop and its small size, with just a small number of customers showing interest and buying his products. These, for the most part, were not one off customers, though, making many return visits over the years, and it was their repeat custom and loyalty to the store that enabled Orvis' business to thrive and ultimately grow, fuelling his passion and funding his design ideas and future innovations.

After a long series of ownership changes and re-branding, the company was eventually taken over by a corporation in the year 2000, though it retained its family run ownership for many years after Orvis himself passed, and its ethics still remain today.

From its inauguration, Orvis was, and evidently still is, all about style, and his sleek reels and clothing creations are a real joy to behold and a pleasure to use and wear. Crucially, though, the company is not exclusively focused on design and attention to detail, ensuring that their line of products are robust, long lasting, and, importantly, practical and fit for their intended purposes.

Now a pheonemonal success all over the world, Orvis run one of the most visited online stores in their field. As well as their incredible success in online retail, they have also opened a total of 20 stores in the UK, with locations in Exeter, Oxford, Edinburgh, Kent, Dorset, London, Yorks and Surrey, amongst others, as well as two outlet stores, one in Norfolk and the other in Somerset. Along with these retail shops, they also run fishing academies and fly fishing schools, promoting and encouraging interest and participation in the sport that its founder was so passionate about.

On their online store, customers can find a whole range of clothing and sporting goods. Men's clothing includes shirts, trousers, shorts, jumpers, sports coats and outerwear, while the women's range includes fleeces, trousers, shorts and a linen collection. They also have a wonderful range of clothes especially made for dogs, presenting the perfect opportunity to pamper pets and show them off to the world, along with quality dog leads, baskets, gates and crates.

The biggest focus and range is still sporting goods, and the fly fishing section of the site does not disappoint with its enormous choice of fishing reels, wading boots, fly lines, backing and tools and accessories. They also do a great assortment of shooting goods, with kits, accessories for clay shooting, jackets, knives and boots. Small luggage, gifts and home ware items are also available among the larger apparel and sports collections.

Orvis Satisfaction Guarantee
All the clothes which are sold at Orvis go through a gruelling process to ensure that they are top notch for their customers. This is done through a testing process. They're talking about doing vigarous exercises and stretching, banging, shaking and dunking in rivers and streams and hiking over mountains.

Depending on how they perform, the products are changed to cater for everyones needs and are therefore excellent quality. If you buy something and it doesn't satisfy your needs, then you can send it back.
