Wilko.com is a very successful British online retailer, which is a well-known family brand, with a staggering turnover of £1 billion.
However, it all started in 1930 when James Kemsey Wilkinson had a vision to make people’s everyday jobs a lot easier. He wanted to provide families with a variety of top quality products which would solve their problems at an affordable price.
The range consisted of household essentials, DIY, cleaning products, gifts, health and beauty, stationary, party ware, pet products, confectionary, kitchen and bathroom items and much more. All of this being under their own Wilko brand.
It also included seasonal peak ranges such as Christmas decorations and trees from September-December, and BBQs and garden tools for the summer.
The successful journey all began when he opened up his first store in Leicester, and saw that people loved the idea of a convenient store which sold household products for fantastic value for money. This then grew at a steadily pace and soon expanded to a whopping 359 stores across the country.
To give their customers the pleasure of shopping their range from the comfort of their own home, wilko.com arrived. A website which sells exactly what it does in the stores plus some awesome online exclusives.
Sadly, James Kemsey died and another member of the family Karin Swann kept the business running. Over these past 80 years she has been experimenting with different changes and challenges in order to get the very best potential from the Wilko brand.
Their strong, loyal values have remained the same throughout the years, these being: Always putting the customer first, to help solve problems through customer service and through their products, to have superb knowledge of what they’re selling, to set the bar high but to keep it simple.
They have now got a Wiko.com site in Asia and plan to have a few more just north of the border. They aim to expand their family brand in their stores and through their websites, by moving forward and turning over impressive revenue.
