Qatar Airways started back in November 1993 and started flying in January 1994. At first they only had one Airplane a Boeing 767-200ER which was on lease from Kuwait Airways.
The company was originally meant to offer a no frills carrier service and was owned outright by the Qatar Royal family.
It was in 1997 that the airline was re-structured and as a result a brand new management team were put in place. In 1997 Qatar Airlines took delivery of a brand spanking new Airbus A300 A7-ABN which was fully decked out in the burgundy and grey colours that have become well known with this brand.
In 2003 Cebu, Singapore, Tripoli and Vienna were added to the flight paths and by the end of that year there 28 aircraft in the fleet!
In November 2006 the Premium Terminal was opened at Doha International. This terminal handles all First and Business Class passengers that are flying in one of their 50 aircraft and was completed in a record nine months.
2007 saw the airline launch flights to Newark, followed by launching daily flights to Washington.
In 2011 new routes were added for Bucharest, Budapest, Brussels and Stuttgart. They also added Aleppo, which also became Qatar Airlines 100th destination. Further expansion during this year saw Oslo, Benghazi, Entebbe and Chongqing all added to the ever growing network.
Now in 2017 Qatar Airlines have over 200 aircraft and fly to over 150 destinations. With an unrivalled service and virtually no destination unreachable it is easy to see how and why this airline has seen such a rapid growth.
